Elpida offers one-chip 512Mb DDR2
32-bit memory for gadgets in pipeline
MEMORY MAKER Elpida will be sampling what they say is the industry's first single-chip 512Mb DDR2 SDRAM with x32-bit I/O configuration by the end of May.
The Japanese company reckons the new configuration, which has only been available as a pair of 16-bit units bolted together up until now, will save up to 25 percent of space on boards, reduce power consumption by 20 percent and deliver far better signal quality due to reduced electro magnetic interference.
The chips, which were specifically designed for digital consumer appliances like Satnavs, TVs cameras and projectors are built on a 70nm process technology and run at between 1GB and 4.2GB per second per chip. µ

DDR2 IS Gonna Rise Agin.?
Like OLD South, DDR2 may be declared Gone before its' Time is thru. 4.2 gb/sec speed is half as Fast as pre Transistor World could get AM Radio, Radar & any Programable(variable) signal to in frequency.Yet this massive improvement also beggs, Why DDR3? It'd have to Get To Near 6 gb/s to beat 4.2 gb/s DDR2 or think Unbelievablely Blazing 1.05 Ghz/s Core.

Lastly, Think of How Multiplier Slowly grows Larger, as in Ultimate, DDR2 @ 4.2 Ghz/$ is 16.8 Ghz/s w/4X Multiplier, So I Eighted My Words, Maybe Digital can go above 2.0 Ghz/s.These number improvements are primarily due to intense work in Iraqi War going from radar at 40 ghz/s(or less) to near 400 Ghz/sec (or More) today.
