Yahoo Fire Eagle takes flight

Cross-app data sharing

YAHOO FINALLY released an official version of Fire Eagle after months of extensive beta testing.

The new platform allows users to simultaneously share their location information with various online applications. However, the search giant made it clear that Fire Eagle was not another social network.

A company blog post explained that the purpose of Fire Eagle was “to play with other social networks to help [users] make the best use of [their] location information”.

Fire Eagle can be easily updated via mobile phone, Mac widget, or programs developed by ZoneTag, My Loki and Navizon.

It should be noted that at least fifty software developers have included support for Fire Eagle in their applications, including Pownce, Brightkite, and Movable Type.
