Toasting inventiveness with new drive

Turn your 5.25" drive bay into a toaster

EVER WONDERED what to do with one of those empty drive bays on your computer case? Why not make a round of toast from it.

Those natty guys over at Coolest-Gadgets, living right up to their name, have discovered a site selling an internal toaster for a PC.

It's a crumby device that fits into a regular bay on the front of your case, drawing power via a simple 4-pin molex and USB, delivering toast on demand whenever needed.

There's even software of all things to control temperature settings, just in case you needed x22 burning. Sadly, the software is only Windows based. Once again, leaving those-who-shall-not-be-named and their dirtymacs, out in the cold and hungry for crumpets.

It looks like the makers have thought of everything, as there's a crumb catching on board tray instead of a CD one. A bit if jiggling may need to be done inside the PC, as a spare PCI slot is required to easily exhaust the inevitable heat build up.

What’s next a USB powered kettle? Well, not quite but we're sure this will do.

You can purchase this fine device from the aptly named site CrazyPC, setting you back a meagre $22.99.

A disclaimer on the product page goes onto state that 'bread is sold separately', which made us chuckle, perhaps more so than discovering there's simply no end to the usefulness of a Windows PC.

If this all takes off, perhaps the next venture for them is an external model. Although surely a normal toaster will suffice? Apple could also get in on the game with the iToaster – expect to see that in the stores soon.

With a fair percentage of cheap blank DVDs being turned into coasters, why not use a spare drive bay for a toaster. µ

Drive Bay Toaster makes toast with your PC

new burner

sounds good, but I'll wait until the 2nd gen burner that will let me burn an image onto the toast via lightscribe. Just so that when someone next says 'bite me!', I can get 'em on some toast and ask 'are you better with butter?'

The toaster was an April Fools joke. Somehow it has resurfaced this past week.

It's a Fake.

Did anyone bother to do any research? After linking through two different sites, we get to www.crazypc.com. Try adding it to your cart.... try it.

This is a great novelty, errr-This is an April Fools Joke. Go to the site and try to add the item to your cart and a message of Happy April Fools comes up. Too bad, I would have bought one for gits and shiggles......

Better Late Than Never

We posted this joke on April 1st 2008 and it's been bouncing around on stumbleupon ever since. Recently boingboing posted it and it went out of control from there. I wish we really did have this product because there are a fair number of people that seem to want it. I thought it was fairly absurd but apparently I'm wrong as most folks seem to think it's real off the get go.
